Deerhunter: Urban Edition

Again, not reader submitted but here are two deer that I saw while I was downtown today.

Seattle Metro users may recognize this stag from the bus tunnel.

Cheese Platter a.k.a. Hart Fart

Wow. I really have a thing for fart jokes.



This "cheese" platter was made from a preexisting dish that the lovely Slogrl sent to me. The original plate:



Yes, this deer was particularly Sarah Cihat-ish. This is because I adore her work. Consider it an homage.

Deerhunter--Vashon Island Edition

While this isn't reader submitted, I think it's still pretty cool. Leff and I went to Vashon Island today. While driving through one of the neighborhoods, we saw some black tailed deer!



I only have a picture of one of them. Hopefully, Leff will upload his soon.

Faux Fawn

The Edible Book Festival returns to Seattle next weekend! (I've participated twice before with three entries.)

As such, I've had cake on the brain. It's a tragic disease. You should see what it looks like on an MRI!

Where was I? Oh yes, cake on the brain...that's why I used the lovely Cakespy Jessie's recipe for fake cupcakes that I completed with a fawn topper.



I do have my own cupfake recipe but Jessie's is much faster. Plus, I enjoy linking to her.

True, it's monochromatic and not a rainbow of illuminated dots. Then again, there was no rule saying that you you had to use all of your colors at once when you played with Lite Brite.

Also, in deer news, Matt Lauer was injured by a deer. Should I feel bad about this "news" making me laugh? No, I didn't think so.

Hey there, Seattle area readers! Back in January, the nice folks at "Evening Magazine" came by Casa Rakkaleff to film a segment about suspect and fugitive.

Well, guess what! The segment airs THIS THURSDAY, 3/19 at 7 pm on King 5!

I've totally already started barfing from nerves.

Anyway, it should be available on their website after the initial air date for any of you out-of-towners who might be interested in viewing it. Wish me luck controlling the nerve related barfing on Thursday! I'm gonna' need it!

Mix Tape Stag

Hey! It's a colored pencil mix tape drawing for your Friday!



Any of you readers out there (born before digital (you know, bbd)) have a favorite mix tape still lurking in your junk drawers/boxes/glove compartments? I found "Songs to Impress People With" lurking in a box not that long ago. Even though the guy who made it for me is an ass (which is why he falls into the "ex" category), the mix is still good.

(As you can see from the title of the mix, he forgot that you're never supposed to end a sentence with a preposition at.) 

Deer Doodle

It has been hectic in rl. This plus the fact that I've read numerous requests for Bill Clinton to show us his doodles is what led me to post today's doodle of a deer wearing legwarmers and smoking a corn cob pipe.



What? Try it, you'll like it.

Changing the subject somewhat, I thought you might like to see the "deer board" in my "office" (It has quotes because it's really a closet. It's really more of a "cloffice" to quote my friend Cole.)

"Monoprint" Laser Eyes

Wanna' know a secret about monoprints? I always like the surface they're pulled from better than the finished print. Case in point, today's laser eyes.



While I won't be posting the finished monoprint, I promise you that I'll be working with this laser eye thing again in the future. It's been rattling around in my head for months.

Diet Mountain Deer

Due to my diet soda addiction, Leff's and my apartment seems, at times, to be its own aluminum recycling center. With all of that material at hand, it was only natural to make a Diet Mountain Deer Head.



It's, to misquote an early '90s diet mountain dew ad, the deer with the don't.

Palette Deer

After bracing my wrist and applying heat packs, I was *finally* able to use my hand again early this evening. Hooray!

So for all you patient and understanding readers, here's a stag head made from the plastic sheet that occurs when I clean/peel off my acrylic paint palette.



It's double sided.

Happy March 1!

Sadly, no deer today as I'm having a hard time getting my right hand out of claw position. (All you fellow repetitive stress sufferers know what I'm talking about.)

If you're a worrying type, please don't fret. After a bit of rest, I'll be good as new and back with more deer soon. Probably tomorrow.
