Aw, Cute!

Awww! It's a quick colored pencil drawing of a fawn and a bird hearting each other!

You know what else is cute? This video that Bonnie F. sent to me! Thanks, Bonnie!

Dedoedorant

Hey, look! It's a doe made from deodorant!

It smells like lady flowers.

Deerhunter: Urban Edition

Again, not reader submitted but here are two deer that I saw while I was downtown today.

Seattle Metro users may recognize this stag from the bus tunnel.

From the Pioneer Square area, here's something vaguely fawnish.

Cheese Platter a.k.a. Hart Fart

Wow. I really have a thing for fart jokes.

This "cheese" platter was made from a preexisting dish that the lovely Slogrl sent to me. The original plate:

Yes, this deer was particularly Sarah Cihat-ish. This is because I adore her work. Consider it an homage.

Deerhunter--Vashon Island Edition

While this isn't reader submitted, I think it's still pretty cool. Leff and I went to Vashon Island today. While driving through one of the neighborhoods, we saw some black tailed deer!

I only have a picture of one of them. Hopefully, Leff will upload his soon.

Edit: here are Leff's pics!

Have you seen any deer lately? Email your photos to rakkadeer [at] gmail [dot] com and I might feature them here!

Faux Fawn

The Edible Book Festival returns to Seattle next weekend! (I've participated twice before with three entries.)

As such, I've had cake on the brain. It's a tragic disease. You should see what it looks like on an MRI!

Where was I? Oh yes, cake on the brain...that's why I used the lovely Cakespy Jessie's recipe for fake cupcakes that I completed with a fawn topper.

I do have my own cupfake recipe but Jessie's is much faster. Plus, I enjoy linking to her.

Hope to see you at the Edible Book Festival next weekend! I hope to have a deer related cake for you to consume!

Peanut Stag

Stag made from peanuts that came from Slotown, CA (Thanks, Slogrl!) that are now residing in the LQA UPS store waiting to be sent out again.

Lite Briteish

This comment by Pants made me start thinking about small dots of light. And so we have today's deer.

True, it's monochromatic and not a rainbow of illuminated dots. Then again, there was no rule saying that you you had to use all of your colors at once when you played with Lite Brite.

Rainbow Starbuck

Buck made from star stickers.

Guess what shows up on YouTube when you search for "deer star"...this!

Monday, March 23, 2009

Orange Hind

Honestly, there're not many things better than a perfectly ripe navel orange. Ok, maybe this video but that's because I'm a sucker for wildlife rescue/recuperation clips.

Also, in deer news, Matt Lauer was injured by a deer. Should I feel bad about this "news" making me laugh? No, I didn't think so.

I Hart Coffee

Ever have one of those mornings where when you grab a cup of coffee on the way downtown you end up with that Black Flag song stuck in your head? This was that cup of coffee.

The stag was added later, obviously.

(Thanks to Chris B. for putting that song on a mix tape for me aaaaaaaaaaall those years ago!)

Kibble Stag

This is Fujiko and Clouseau's favorite deer to date.

Popcorn Stag

Yesterday, I made three kinds of popcorn so that my guests could snack while watching the "Suspect and Fugitive" segment on King 5. Did you think that I would pass up the opportunity to turn it into a stag?

You really know me so well! (hee hee!)

Doeflake

It's been a rough winter in Seattle. I can't stop thinking about snow.

Reminder: My segment about Suspect and Fugitive will be airing on "Evening Magazine" tonight at 7 pm on King 5!

Vaguely Kokeshi

I've really, *really* been watching "Paprika" too much.

Head's up!

Hey there, Seattle area readers! Back in January, the nice folks at "Evening Magazine" came by Casa Rakkaleff to film a segment about suspect and fugitive.

Well, guess what! The segment airs THIS THURSDAY, 3/19 at 7 pm on King 5!

I've totally already started barfing from nerves.

Anyway, it should be available on their website after the initial air date for any of you out-of-towners who might be interested in viewing it. Wish me luck controlling the nerve related barfing on Thursday! I'm gonna' need it!

Spideer

I think this will do it for the hybrid deer for a while.

That being said, it won't stop my inexplicable enjoyment of this Crocodeer Spore video.

Birdeer

Yeah, there's *definitely* something going on with birds and deer here.

I'm fine with that though. (P.S.- This one is also one of the images that I'm working on screening.)

(P.S.2- All this bird stuff has gotten "Begin the Begin" stuck in my head.)

Laser Eyes Part Deux

I told you that I would be working with the laser eyes motif again.

This may be another contender for a silkscreen.

Dosey Doe

For all of you who never had to suffer the indignity of P.E. square dancing in middle school, Do-di-do.

Speaking of dancing and deer, this just maybe the cure for all crappy Sunday mornings!

Back tomorrow

I'm experiencing technical difficulties of a sort. Back tomorrow with two deer.

Illuminating Stag

Micron on paper.

I'll more than likely be making a silkscreen out of another version of this. Stay tuned!

Upcoming Show in April!

Hi, lovely readers! It's time for a quick break to let you know about my next show!

This promises to be a *great* one due to the absolute incredibleness of the curator. (She seriously knocks my socks off!)

Additionally, Leff and I may attend the opening since it's in Cali and not on the other side of North America. Hope to see you there!

Cinnamon H(e)art

When life gives you leftover Valentine's candy, make a cinnamon h(e)art!

Petal Head

While making this stag head out of daisies petals I wasn't thinking "He loves me, he loves me not...". Nope, I was singing "Push the little daisies and make them come up. Huh!".

Faux Snow Doe (for Bonnie)

In celebration of the lack of snow in LQA, I thought I'd go the fake snow route today. (If I'd had to deal with a *real* snow route, I would not be as chipper as I am at the moment.)

(Bonnie, is this one as creepy to you as the other one? hee hee!)

(Thanks to Brit for suggesting the "faux".)

Leaf Deer

Since there's yet another winter advisory in the Seattle area, I thought I'd go green this morning.

So help me, if spring doesn't bother showing up again this year, I'm moving to Fiji. (No, not really.)

Deerhunter: Internet Weirdness from Groc

Groc stumbled upon some deer weirdness while searching the tubes recently.

Image from Cute with Chris.

Image from this Livejournal.

Have you seen (or made) any deer lately? Email me at rakkadeer [at] gmail [dot] com and I might post your trophies here!

Hind Rind

Hind made from cheese rind.

Applejack smoked cheddar cheese rind to be precise.

Saturday, March 7, 2009

Doesferatu (for Groc)

Vampire deer are real! They don't sparkle in the light though. (Personally, I think that's a stupid attribute but, hey, what do I know about Twilight?)

Thanks to Groc for introducing me to vampire deer all those years ago.

Mix Tape Stag

Hey! It's a colored pencil mix tape drawing for your Friday!

Any of you readers out there (born before digital (you know, bbd)) have a favorite mix tape still lurking in your junk drawers/boxes/glove compartments? I found "Songs to Impress People With" lurking in a box not that long ago. Even though the guy who made it for me is an ass (which is why he falls into the "ex" category), the mix is still good.

(As you can see from the title of the mix, he forgot that you're never supposed to end a sentence with a preposition at.)

Deer Doodle

It has been hectic in rl. This plus the fact that I've read numerous requests for Bill Clinton to show us his doodles is what led me to post today's doodle of a deer wearing legwarmers and smoking a corn cob pipe.

What? Try it, you'll like it.

Changing the subject somewhat, I thought you might like to see the "deer board" in my "office" (It has quotes because it's really a closet. It's really more of a "cloffice" to quote my friend Cole.)

"Monoprint" Laser Eyes

Wanna' know a secret about monoprints? I always like the surface they're pulled from better than the finished print. Case in point, today's laser eyes.

While I won't be posting the finished monoprint, I promise you that I'll be working with this laser eye thing again in the future. It's been rattling around in my head for months.

Diet Mountain Deer

Due to my diet soda addiction, Leff's and my apartment seems, at times, to be its own aluminum recycling center. With all of that material at hand, it was only natural to make a Diet Mountain Deer Head.

It's, to misquote an early '90s diet mountain dew ad, the deer with the don't.

Monday, March 2, 2009

Surf and Turf Doe

Doe made of sand and soil.

If you're ever in Seattle, you should head to Golden Gardens. There's even a Paseo stand on the way there.

Palette Deer

After bracing my wrist and applying heat packs, I was *finally* able to use my hand again early this evening. Hooray!

So for all you patient and understanding readers, here's a stag head made from the plastic sheet that occurs when I clean/peel off my acrylic paint palette.

It's double sided.

Happy March 1!

Sadly, no deer today as I'm having a hard time getting my right hand out of claw position. (All you fellow repetitive stress sufferers know what I'm talking about.)

If you're a worrying type, please don't fret. After a bit of rest, I'll be good as new and back with more deer soon. Probably tomorrow.
