Shaving Cream Stag

Yesterday I read online that one could use shaving cream to clean spots on one's rug. You know that I couldn't pass up that opportunity, right?

The added bonus? The shaving cream method works!

John Doe

So what's your favorite "My Name Is..." song? I'm partial to the Jonas version but this is because I'm an old and still in love with Rivers Cuomo.

Also, I once knew someone named Jonas so there's that...

Seriously though. Are you a Slim Shady fan? Primus for "My Name is Mud"? I'd love to know!

Fawnzie

AAAAAAAAAAA!!

This clip of Fonzie's super power is so beyond ridiculous that it always makes me laugh.

Quick Sketch--Deer in the City

Today's deer has to be a quick one since real life is invading my alloted project time again.

It's graphite on a gessoed page in a discarded library book.

Now go enjoy Kate Micucci's "Dear Deer"! (I found it through Crystl!)

Sprinkle Stag

Below are sprinkles that were labeled as "rainbow sprinkles".

Now I ask you...in what city are yellow, beige, grey and shit brown considered a rainbow?  Give up?  According to the package, Saddlebrook, NJ.

You can't make that stuff up.

Gubmall Deer

Hey there, Plush You Readers! Thanks for stopping by!

I love the way these gumballs look (all shiny and bright) but I'm always saddened by the flavor. Such is life though, right?

Deerhunter: Alex Ozers

Alex Ozers makes lovely mixed media works that often feature deer!

Be sure to check out more of his work at his site! (Thanks, Alex!)

Conehead

First up, a special hello to all of you Flavorpill readers! Thanks for stopping by!

I am dying for spring to stick around for longer than two days! It's 39 f in Seattle this morning! GAH!

Three Balloons

Why, yes! I like balloons!

While it has nothing to do with deer, this video has plenty to do with balloons! (Yes, you've probably seen it before but it bears a repeat viewing!)

Doe Joe

Doe made from ground coffee beans.

I typoed "dojo" when I was searching for an accompanying video ('cause I know how much you like the video) and, boy, am I glad that I did! Otherwise, I wouldn't have known about Do-Ho Suh's "Floor"!

Deerhunter: I Heart Sammi

Reader Sammi makes fantastic deer heads!

Make sure to check out her Etsy shop for more fabulous images! (Thanks, Sammi!)

Strawberry Marshmalldoe Fluff

Doe made from Strawberry Marshmallow Fluff.

This is one of my favorite color combos. I call it "Hillary Clinton Power Suit" and even use it in my hair from time to time.

MS Paint Stag

Is there anything more cathartic than making an MS Paint drawing? Sure there is. But still...

I spared you the indignity of Comic Sans.

Wooly Stag

No, it's not a wooly bully, it's a stag head made from grey wool.

It's quite comforting to work with such a soft material after such a hard week!

Deerhunter: Bremerton

Leff and I have been spending a considerable amount of time in Bremerton lately. Today we saw some deer that were part of an Amy Burnett mural.

Have you seen any deer lately? Made any yourself? Email me at rakkadeer [at] gmail [dot] come and I might feature your photos!

Part Bird

This one is similar to the bird barf. I'll attribute the returning bird fixation to the book that I'm currently reading. (Birding on Borrowed Time)

Deerhunter: East Side Edition

I was in Kirland earlier today. (I know, right? (I had my reasons. Although, to be honest, I doubt I'll ever go back.)) ANYway, guess what I saw while walking Porkchop! A bronze deer!

It was kinda' weirdly located. I honestly don't know what it was doing there. Which, I guess, sums up my opinion of Kirkland as well. (No hard feelings, Eastsiders. I'm sure you enjoy coming out to play and all that.)

Chocolate Fawndue

Any time I see chocolate, I think of the "Fifty-Fifty" episode of "The IT Crowd". Sadly, I can't link to a video of Jenn with chocolate on her head saying "Do you want to go on a date with me?" but I CAN link to Tay Zonday. You know, just to drive Leff nuts. (mwah-haa!)

Edit on 4/18: Hello, Serious Eats readers! Thanks for clicking through!

Wheee!

I thought a quick, goofy deer drawing was in order today since it's *finally* decided to warm up in the PNW.

I think I'll get some balloons and sit by the International Fountain. I might also eat some cotton candy.

Foam Doe

Whaddya' know? It's a foam doe for your (U.S.) tax day!

What will you spend your refund on (if you're lucky enough to get one)? I'll probably buy something from a gum ball machine and then use the rest for a load of laundry.

Red Deer

Oh, my! What a terrible joke!

I've had the old U.S.S.R. flag on the brain a lot lately because of the Teabagging party (that will never fail to make me laugh. NEVER!) and their "threat of socialism/communism" ghost stories.

Plus I've always thought that the flag worked very well graphically.

Binary Deer

Continuing in today's geeky vein, here's a binary deer.

ASCII Stag

This is a simple ASCII drawing that I made in, wait for it, Notepad. Hahah! It's by no means as complex as the ASCII AC/DC video as seen on your YouTubes but, you know, things are busy in these parts.

Second deer of the day coming up shortly!

Happy Easter if you celebrate it

Hi, readers! I'm taking today off. Not because I need to hunt eggs or eat chocolate rabbits but because there's a lot going on in rl space that needs to be taken care of. See you on Monday with two new deer!

Slightly Bookish

Not only is this piece for Year of Deer but it also serves as a reminder that Slightly Bookish will be opening TODAY at 3p-5p at the Kennedy Library at the CalPoly SLO Campus! So if you'd like to see this little guy in person

make sure to drop by! (more info)

Here he is in situ for those of you who can't make it!

(Thanks to Slogrl for all her hard work and the use of the photo!)

Tobacdoe

Doe made from pipe tobacco.

No, I don't smoke anymore. (I couldn't afford to feed that old habit now even if I wanted to.) Leff does occasionally smoke a pipe, however. You know, when he's feeling professorial.

Ice Cold Sketch

Here's a sketch for a piece that I'm making for the June arctic show at Schmancy. (I'll post the finished work closer to the date of the show.)

Why, yes! It does look similar to the Sharpie Stag! But it's also a bit different. Like fire and ice different, if you will.

Seedy Stag

Pants had the idea of arranging grass in a deer shape. This morning, I took it back to its embryonic stage, if you will.

It's made from cat grass seeds that an older lady who used to live in my building gave me. They might technically be wheatgrass seeds but aren't labeled as such.

Fawn Cat Toy

Wanna' know what almost takes you into Elanor territory? When you make your own cat toys.

At least they're appreciated.

A Most Annoying Gif Deer

Leff and I were looking through old photos yesterday and noticed that three consecutive laser deer drawings that I'd made worked as a running deer. Thus we have today's entry, a most annoying gif deer.

Ah, yes. Continuous motion on the page. How 1998 of me.

I'm actually quite fond of the reflection.  (Thanks for your help, Leff!)

A note: If the gif isn't showing up for you, please click on the image icon. You'll be redirected to a Picasa Web page. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Piped Stag

What? Did you think I was going to let all of the extra icing from the cake go to waste?

Here's a side view.

Edible Deer

Today's deer is for the Seattle Edible Book Festival which is happening TODAY! (more info about that below.)

It's based on the book Fire Bringer (warning: audio!) which is very much like the Watership Down for deer.

Anyway, here are three pics of the cake for your viewing pleasure!

Do you need a list of ingredients? Fine. The deer is made from rice krispie squares, marzipan, sesame seeds, food dye and four skewers. All plant life, except for the pine trees, is composed of marshmallow fondant. The pine trees are sugar cones coated with royal icing. Oh, there's also a yellow cake with cream cheese icing in there and some candy rocks and a bit of thyme.

Here's the more info bit: If you're in Seattle, WA tomorrow (3/4/09) from 1-4p, please drop by the Good Shepherd Center!

Admission is $10 (free with edible book entry) with proceeds going to the Seattle Center for Book Arts!

Hope to see you there!

Candy Rock Stag

No, not rock candy. It's candy rocks.

Rock candy always gets this song stuck in my head.

Tomorrow you'll see what all of this candy and confectionery stuff has been about!

Effing Hippie Fawn

Today's deer is kind of like a fake batik.

No, I'm not even going to dignify the words "hippie" and "fawn" with a cursory YouTube search. Besides, I've got the new "Wonder Woman" to watch.

Marshmallow Fawndant

Fawn cut into marshmallow fondant that I made using this recipe.

Don't forget! The Seattle Edible Book Festival is this weekend!
