Deerhunter: Digital Edition

Leff spotted these deer while he was playing "Oblivion".

Also, in deer "news", here's a doe taking on the popo.

Not Quite a Birdie

If everything goes well we should be closing on our house in 11 days. After we move in (*fingers crossed*), one of the first things I'd like to buy is a badminton set.

Abe Lincoln Fawn

Maybe this would have made more sense on President's Day...

Can you think of a set that's more fun than the swing kind? Maybe chemsitry...

In no way related to deer...

This is in no way related to deer, but I thought I'd pass along the news that Leff and I got approved for our home loan!

It also looks like we're going to be closing earlier than we thought which is fine since everything is already packed.

Anyway, YoDeer will continue during the move to our first house/opening in Seattle/painting/massive cleaning/having visitors in from out of town/my finishing the three pieces for an upcoming show in Tokyo/unpacking. (*Whew* June is going to be busy!)

Hopefully, our internet connection will be fairly constant so there won't be a break in posts. However, if it does happen, please bear with me.

K, I'm off to finish cleaning our apartment!

Like yesterday's scissors, this should never go into production. Least of all because there are no exiting electrical adapters available.

Whether you'd use a pair of scissors like this to cut a rug, in line or a bitch, it's a safe bet that they wouldn't be suitable for either lefties or righties.

Contrail Stag

I guess it comes from living in the city for too long, but I think contrails are pretty. (Hey, I can barely see stars at night, ok?)

Plus, you know, you can kind of use them to predict the weather. They'll only form when there's enough moisture high in the atmosphere for ice crystals to form around airplane exhaust. Which, you know, could mean rain.

Monday, May 25, 2009

Hahaha. It's a Twitter joke.

And with that I'm going to finish turning 36 today. Happy Memorial Day if you happen to observe it in your country!

Doeing Needle

Still packing. But since we're on the subject of needle and thread, don't forget about the Fiber Arctic show next month! More info here.

Saturday, May 23, 2009

No, "The Humans are Dead" has nothing to do with with computers but, well, I felt like linking to it anyway.

Fleur Deer Lis

There's not much to add today. Besides, it's time I got back to packing.

Blue Mixed Media Fawn

I don't know why I enjoy drawing in blue, but I certainly doe, er, I mean, do.

Speaking of does, I'm smitten with this video.

Sweet Little Fawn

The fawn above is sweet because it's made from two types of sugar. This fawn, however, is sweet with no added preservatives!

Tuesday, May 19, 2009

I normally can't stand watching videos of children eating but this clip of a little girl eating a sno-cone makes me think of summer instead of saliva.  (In other words, it's pretty darn adorable.)

Crosshatched Stag with Morse Code

Sadly, I can't directly link to the sound of "deer" in Morse code.  If you'd like to hear it, click here, type in deer, and press the "play" button at the bottom of the page.  Moments of fun!

I can't believe that I finally made a monoprint that I can live with!

Deerhunter: Michal's Printable Deer Stationary

Michal of Dreaming of Craft sent me a link to some lovely printable deer stationary that she created!

Thanks so much, Michal!

Deerhunter: Donut Deer

I spotted this deer painted on the wall of the Queen Anne Top Pot while Leff and I were getting coffee.

I've been watching the new "Grey Gardens" movie a lot lately and there's one silly little thing that Big Edie says that gets stuck in my head. "How can you resist?!" Three separate times in the film Big Edie/Jessica Lange says this. So, being the literal person that I am, I, uh, resisted.  With wax.

K, I've got to watch "Grey Gardens" again. It expires on HBO On Demand on the 18th.

Map Stag

This is a pretty cool (if a tad long) interpretation of a map. It reminds me of the large thumbtacks that Microsoft placed around Seattle a few years ago. Only, you know, more awesome because it's about Google Maps and not lame-o Microsoft Live. (Yes, I am a Google fan girl.)

Ever wanted to learn how to make anime hypno eyes? Here's a great tutorial!

Fiber Arctic!

Hey there, YoDeer readers! It's time to post my next show announcement!

Fiber Arctic will open at Schmancy on June 12th from 6-9. I'm going to try to attend but Leff and I are supposedly closing on our house on the 11th and starting the moving process the next day. (We have a house blog now in case you're interested.)

Either way, it's going to be a great show! You should *totally* check it out!

Not Quite a Ponytail

For someone who spends maybe five seconds on her hair every day, I'm strangely fascinated by all things hair wars. (warning: music)

(This deer is loosely based on this image by the lovely lulubrooks who used a Creative Commons license.)

Cinnamon Stag

Here's a stag that was eventually rolled up into a cinnamon roll.

If you'd like to make your own cinnamon rolls, I can highly recommend the recipe on this photo. It takes a while, but it's worth it.

Surely you've had one of those days where you wish no one would recognize you. It's like, the bizarro "Cheers".

Sunday, May 10, 2009

I'm sure that in many places, all of the cherry blossoms have already fallen off of the trees. Not quite so in Seattle. (It's been a cold spring.)

Regardless of your sakura situation, it's always cool to watch the blossoms fall.

Heart Hart

Hope this one helps to get your blood flowing this Saturday morning. It didn't work for me. I'm still as sleepy as this kitty.

Friday, May 8, 2009

Kite Flying

No, not that kind of kite, this kind.

And with that I'm going back to sleep.

Erased Stag

I have nothing pithy or a/vish to add to this stag erased out of charcoal. It is, apparently, monsoon season outside and that just makes me want to sleep.

Monday, May 4, 2009

Today had to be another quick deer because, once again, it's hectic. Still, that doesn't mean you shouldn't take some time out of your Monday to check out some of my favorite robots. Because, when you think about it, an animatronic Abe Lincoln is pretty effing weird.

Alien Doe (For Leff)

I got the idea for an "Alien" style doe after watching a goblin shark documentary with Leff. He felt that the two creatures (shark and alien) were similar.

Saturday, May 2, 2009

While one drawing of three octopi doesn't constitute an Octopus Project per se, you should still give them a listen.

Friday, May 1, 2009

Inspired by the Titus Kaphar exhibit at SAM, I made these two pieces.

If you're in Seattle before Sept. 6 of this year, I would *strongly* recommend catching his work!
